Guide

This Colt guide, similar to my Poco M(Dis)asterclass guide, will lead you through 4 strategies on 4 maps, from which you can branch out strategies to new maps or gamemodes and gain skill and trophies based off the foundation this provides. This is my first guide in a while, and my second guide ever, so do bear with me if I am slow to update it.Strategy 1 - Knockout, Out in the OpenThe first thing that comes to mind for any intermediate player playing Colt is that he works well in open maps - Out in the Open is a really good example to show not only how to play with Colt on open maps where aim and movement are vital, but you can also learn how to use your Gadget, Silver Bullet, most effectively to break down the map.You begin by walking up the left hand side of the map, towards your "home" bushes (the ones closest to you). To which one you go is optional, but while you go there, use Silver Bullet to break down the breakable wall behind the unbreakable wall in front of where you spawn. This will provide an easy path for your teammates to get through to their "home" bush and allow your team to go on the offensive early. The only time where you DO NOT employ this strategy is if all of your opponents are marksmen, or on higher trophy lobbies if two of them are Silver II marksmen or higher (in terms of mastery). This is because they will be able to exploit the open space very well and it will make life harder for your teammates. In this instance you only break that wall to help your teammates retreat in rounds 2 or 3.Once you have reached your "home" bush, you have one of two choices to follow: Either passive play, where you watch where your opponent or their attacks are coming from before attacking towards them, or active play, where you aim into the bushes to lure them out and keep the attack going. I personally employ a more passive style of play, because it feels safer considering Colt's health. In this instance, you would aim 2 attacks - one in the direction where the shots are going, and one where you predict them to move. This last shot requires intuition that can only be honed by game time, so practice with friends if you need to. If you would like to employ an active playstyle, then you walk close to the middle, staying roughly close to the unbreakable wall on the left as a home spot just ahead of you, and then firing attacks at where you think the opponents will be. You are more likely to be caught out with this, as the onus is on you to attack them out of the bush. If you have it again, use Silver Bullet to break the bushes next to the unbreakable wall and clear up some of the possible hiding spots they could take later. From there, you aim and dodge. While I mention dodging, it's important to know that Colt's bullets will travel in the same direction you travel (e.g. if you are walking left as you attack, Colt's bullets will follow at a slight delay). You can use this to kill an opponent in 1 or 2 attacks if you land all of your shots, but this is only viable if you have an open map, so use your super or gadget at first to break all of their bushes and walls, or as many as possible within the first round or so, before concentrating all of your attacking power on killing them.
Following this, an ideal scenario would see you push your team up on them quickly, and overwhelming them with your firepower before they even have time to react.Strategy 2 - Hot Zone, Parallel PlaysLet's get one thing out of the way right here and now - Colt is not ideal most of the time for Hot Zone. This game mode has one of the worst win rates when playing Colt, if not the very worst one, and Colt players here can struggle to synergise with their team, especially if there isn't an area controlling brawler like Lou or throwers like Barley. However, Hot Zone is good practice for the one thing Colt can do, which is eliminate the opponents and make up vital time in the zone. Essentially, kills are everything for Colt here, and if you understand this then you are already ahead of a lot of average Colt players. There would be a simpler affair if the map had 1 hot zone - go in, get kills and let your team do the controlling while you stay as the first line of defence to the zone. However, this map has 2 hot zones which each count for 50% of your team's total, so you need to make a choice here - which zone do I aim for?
The answer lies in where your opponents are going, but to a manageable extent. For example, if there are 2 opponents going to the top zone and 1 coming to the bottom zone (closer to you), then it would make sense to let your teammates gain that bottom zone and push the top zone, annoying them out of the zone and slowing their progress. However, if all 3 opponents are in either zone, follow your team or encourage them to follow you to the other, completely unmarked zone - it's not worth picking an unnecessary fight immediately. The gadget is used here more to deal damage than break anything, as the middle of the map is wide open, but feel free to use it on the bushes around your initial zone, or the walls around your second zone too. Playing hot zone is helpful for those who want to increase their accuracy in game situations, especially under the time stress of the hot zone progress bars, which sets you up really nicely for PART 3 of this guide - Bounty; this is arguably Colt's best game mode, so it's a must for any Colt players to be able to play him on Bounty.

Works Well With

Larry & Lawrie

Larry & Lawrie

S1 - Aside from the obvious fact that Larry and Lawrie is just broken as a brawler, any thrower would compliment the strategy well if they are good throwers, controlling where the opponent can move by placing "boundary attacks" which cut off where the opponents can go. This allows Colt to hone in on where to attack, and get the kills without wasting too much time.

Frank

Frank

S2 - As counterproductive as a tank would seem with Colt, it's possible for a Colt to take advantage of the tank in 2 ways. One way is to use the Frank/other tank as a meat shield when pushing a hot zone, thereby letting Colt shoot more freely and letting Frank get attacks in too without worrying about being left solo when Colt dies. Also, Colt can be the assistant here, using his bullets to force the opponents into Frank's attack and costing them valuable time in the hot zone.
